The University of Saint Francis
Presents Latin Music and Dance Event
January 28, 2008, Fort Wayne,
Indiana: The Department of English and Foreign Languages
at the University of Saint Francis will host a
family-friendly “danceable party” with the Latin band
Fandanguero on Saturday, February 16 at 3 p.m. at North
Campus (formerly Abundant Life Tabernacle).
Fandanguero’s music has a lively
and upbeat sound; it is primarily based on Son Jarocho,
a traditional musical style of Veracruz, Mexico,
represented by a fusion of indigenous, Spanish and
African musical elements. Using traditional acoustic
instruments (the jarana, requinto and cajón),
Fandanguero gives an animated performance and invites
the audience to join in. The band is accompanied by
dancers, who perform a zapateado dance wearing
traditional costumes.
