University of Saint Francis to Host Spring Meeting
for Great Lakes Planetarium Association
April 24, 2008, Fort Wayne, Indiana:
The University of Saint Francis will host the Indiana
Chapter of the Great Lakes Planetarium Association (GLPA)
spring meeting on Saturday, April 26 at 8 a.m. in the
E.C. Schouweiler Planetarium.
Headlining the meeting will be
presentations on various planetarium topics, including
“Let There Be Night” by the PHM Planetarium in Elkhart
about sky glow and light pollution issues in northern
Indiana and “A Search for New Planets” about Ball State
University’s ongoing program with its SARA consortium
observatories to detect planetary transits in stellar
systems presented by the Ball State Planetarium.
In addition, product demonstrations
from two international planetarium vendors will take
place. Ash Enterprises will showcase “Warped Media,” a
new all-dome video technology; and BowenTechnovation
from Indianapolis will demonstrate their product line.
The Great Lakes Planetarium
Association is the oldest regional planetarium
association in the country. It is a professional
organization dedicated to supporting astronomy and space
science education through planetaria, and offers
membership to all individuals in any way connected with
the operation of planetaria, regardless of geographic
location. GLPA is an affiliate of the
International Planetarium Society (IPS) and the
National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
Members come from over 30 states and at least four
countries.
