Web Policy

The emergence of the World Wide Web offers a variety of opportunities for the University of Saint Francis. These opportunities will arise most effectively in an environment that fosters innovation and creative expression.

The university web site offers a prime location for communication with a vast and diverse audience group. As such, its administration shall be coordinated by the web developer under University Technology Services. Though guided by the web developer, the responsibility for ensuring and maintaining USF's quality image is shared by all those who contribute to it.

This policy, like the web, is dynamic and subject to change.

Web Management Framework

The web developer in University Technology Services shall manage the organizational structure, policies, and appearance of the university's home page, first level pages, and generally indirectly, all other official university pages. Official pages are defined as pages that represent a school, department, office, function, or activity with information published in the course of regular university business.

Official Web Pages

All official university pages must contain identification of the university, name of the unit publishing the page, university standard navigation, the unit's building location and phone number, and links to the university's privacy policy. Each request for a web site shall identify a site author responsible for maintaining its information.

Whenever possible, official university information shall be distributed only from recognized sources for such information. For example, Financial Aid for tuition, scholarships, and cost information; Admissions for admission requirements and enrollment information, etc. To help ensure accuracy and currency of information, and to prevent duplication, other pages should provide links to these sources, rather than republish the information.

Style Guides for Official Pages

All university pages must adhere to their set style guide provided by the web developer.

Student Groups and Organizations

Requests for student group and organization web sites must be made to the web developer. Provided there is adequate web space, the web developer will only grant access permission. It is the responsibility of each group or organization to design, create, and maintain their own sites. Each year, a person must be designated to maintain the web site. If after a period of two years the web site has not been updated, the web developer will contact the faculty/staff sponsor. The sponsor will have two (2) weeks to designate a person to maintain the site. If no one is chosen, then a copy of the organization's site will be made and given to the sponsor/contact, and then removed from sf.edu.
