Using Your Student Voicemail
To Customize your mailbox the first time:
Single-Person Room

·When prompted for your password, enter temporary password. (Ext number with the number one behind it)
Multiple-Person Room
·Dial 7495
·As soon as the prompt starts, press *
·Enter your mailbox number
·Enter temporary password (mailbox number with the number one
behind it)
·Follow prompts
Follow the voice prompts to do the following:
·Change your password to a private one that is at least 4 digits long and does not begin with zero.
·Record your first and last name and your personal greeting(s).
To Access your personal voice mailbox from a phone on campus:
·Dial 7495
·If you hear your name, key in your password and press #.
·If you don't hear the main greeting, press * to indicate you are a subscriber, then at the prompt key in your mailbox/ext. number and password and press #.
To Access your personal voice mailbox from a phone off campus:
·Dial 434-7495
·Press #
·Key in your mailbox /ext. number and password and press #.
To Change your personal greeting:
Single-Person Room
·Dial 7495
·Enter Password
·Key in 4 3 1
·Follow prompts for recording.
Multiple-Person Room
·Dial 7495
·As soon as the prompt starts, press *
·Enter your mailbox number
·Enter password
·Key in 4 3 1
·Follow prompts for recording
GENERAL TIPS:
You do not have to listen to all Octel prompts; you can interrupt most of them, except name confirmations and error messages. When inside your personal mailbox, use the following tips and shortcuts:
#Indicates you are finished with the current step and want to go immediately to the next step.
E.g., When you call Octel, press # right after your mailbox number then enter your password and press # to get to the Main Menu immediately.
To cancel your entry or back up; e.g., erase and re-record, or re-enter a destination number if you made a mistake. To return to the Main Menu, repeat "*,until you hear "Main Menu." To end your Octel session, repeat "*,, until you hear "Good-Bye," then hang up. If you hang up without pressing * to exit, your extension will remain busy for awhile.
5 To restart a session, i.e., to exit your mailbox, but remain in the Octel system. For example, to transfer to an extension. To restart, return to the Main Menu, then press 5. You will hear the main company greeting.
0 To receive Octel Help voice prompts. Gives you all the options available at your current location in your mailbox.
00 To call your company Operator, during business hours. If you are at an extension on the phone system and you hang up while inside your mailbox, your extension may not be disconnected from the system right away. If someone dials your extension during this time the system may think your extension is still busy. You should exit the system by pressing the * key until you hear the "Good-Bye" prompt.
If you are inside your mailbox and are LISTENING, you may press:
# To skip a message that is playing or is about to play and jump to the next message.
## To skip over New messages and get to Saved (Archived) Messages.
1 To rewind 10 seconds.
11 To rewind to the beginning of the current message.
2 To pause message playback for 20 seconds.
2 To restart
22 To continue pause.
3 To fast forward ]0 seconds.
33 To fast forward to the end of the current message.
339 To fast forward to the end of the current message and save it into the Archived Message area of your mailbox.
337 To fast forward to the end of the current message and erase it.
5 To hear Envelope Information (sender, date and time sent, length of message, status: urgent or private).
4 To decrease message playback speed one of two levels.
44 For slowest speed.
6 To increase message playback speed one of two levels.
66 For fastest speed.
9 To increase message playback volume, one level of increase available.
8 To return to normal message playback volume.
* Cancels the active playback option and returns to normal playback.
* When a message is not playing, * cancels Message Review and returns you to your Main Menu.
While you are inside your mailbox and are RECORDING, you may press:
# To skip over someone's Regular greeting and begin recording. You cannot skip over an Extended Absence greeting.
* To stop recording, erase what you just recorded, and re-record.
* To stop recording and erase what you just recorded.
2 To pause recording for 10 seconds.
2 To continue recording.
22 To continue pause.
1 To rewind 10 seconds of what you just recorded.
11 To rewind to the beginning of your recording.
0 To hear Delivery Options, press 0 after entering the destination.
Note: To re-record a portion of what you are recording, use l or 1-1 to rewind, let it play back and at the point where you want to rerecord, press 2 to pause playback. The system will prompt you to continue playback or continue recording here.
