Connecting to the Residential Hall Network
Important Information
The following steps will help you connect to the USF network. If you need assistance in following these steps, please contact the Help Desk to schedule an appointment. By scheduling an appointment, you will be asked to bring your computer and your OneCard to the Help Desk so a technician may walk you through the connection procedures. Please note that you will be required to be present at all times during this appointment. If your computer is experiencing any other software or hardware problems, it is the responsibility of the student to correct the problems. The Help Desk staff will be unable to assist students in issues not relating to the network connection.
Step by Step Instructions
1. Plug the computer into the power outlet and connect the network cable to the data port.
In most rooms, the ports are labeled for phone and data connections. If you experience no connection, try switching ports.
2. Open an Internet Browser
Approved browsers include IE 6+, Firefox, and Safari.
3. You should automatically be redirected to the Network Access Control Portal. Click Yes to any certificate warnings.
4. Please read the policies, click Agree, and then click Next.
5. Students living in the residence halls will need to select the first option: Students, Faculty and Staff.
6. You will be asked to choose an agent for scanning. Students living in the residence halls are advised to use the Persistent Agent, but are not required to.
Please Note: At this time, the persistent agent is not available for use. Please select the dissolvable agent.
7. Please enter the required information in the appropriate boxes. You will need to have your USF Username and Password in order to download the agent. If your account is locked out or expired, please visit the Help Desk with your OneCard in order to receive a new password. For the phone number, you may also use either your room phone number or your cell phone number. Finally, please use the drop down box to choose your residence hall and enter your room number in the space below.
8. A dialog box will prompt you to either run or save the scanning agent. Click Run and click Run again if you are asked about an unknown publisher. The agent will download and scan your computer. A new window will open with the results.
9. If you have a successful scan, the system will begin granting access to the network. This process can take up to a minute and then redirect you to the USF homepage. If you are not redirected or receive a "page cannot be displayed," please either refresh your browser or close the browser and open a new browser window.
You should now have access to the USF network. You may be asked to reauthenticate every time you connect to the network. Every 3 days, you will be redirected and required to register again. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Help Desk at 260-399-7700 x6027.
