Women's History Month
St. Francis College honors the achievements and contributions of women to our nation’s history and to the stature and legacy of the College.
We celebrate that the majority — 55% — of our full-time faculty is women, bucking national trends.
We commend the women who pursue their dreams of higher education at SFC. Since the first trailblazing class of 13 women enrolled in the College in 1969, our women students continue to make their mark here with distinction. Since 1986, women have made up the majority of each year’s graduating class. They now account for more than 60% of the entire student body.
We salute our women athletes, from our inaugural women’s team — basketball — that competed in its first season in 1973 to the latest addition to the roster — soccer — that debuted in 2019. We pay tribute to Irma Garcia, our athletics director, the first Latinx woman to lead a Division I athletic program.
We invite the SFC community to take part in events this month that put women at the fore. Follow St. Francis College on social media (@sfcny) throughout the month as we shine a light on remarkable women who forge new paths for themselves and open doors for the women around them.
