Celebrating Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ Community

Pride Month

Dear SFC Community,

St. Francis College celebrates Pride Month! We value the many contributions of our students, faculty members, staff and alumni from the LGBTQIA+ community. While we acknowledge the progress that has been made in our society to be more inclusive, we must remain vigilant to protect the rights of all people regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression.

We are committed to cultivating and sustaining a campus community where everyone can thrive as their authentic selves. This type of learning and working environment not only supports Franciscan values but also prepares our students to make meaningful contributions in a diverse world.

Let us be particularly mindful of the challenges faced by transgender individuals around the world. According to the ACLU, more than 100 bills attacking transgender people have been introduced in state legislatures since 2020. Every human being has the right to live a life free of judgement and persecution. Through advocacy and collaboration, we all can join the fight to end discrimination.

As Franciscans, we have a responsibility to continue to educate ourselves, and to demonstrate intentionality through our words and actions. Visit the GLAAD Resource List to access resources and learn more about LGBTQIA+ issues.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeanne Arnold, Ed.D.
