Federal Grants

Federal grants are based on financial need determined by the FAFSA. These awards are considered “gift aid” and do not need to be repaid by the student.

Federal Pell Grant
Federal Pell Grants are determined by the Department of Education based upon demonstrated financial need and full-time (12 credits minimum per semester) or part-time enrollment at SFC. Pell Grants may only be used toward the student’s first undergraduate degree.

Federal SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant) Grant
Federal SEOG Grants are awarded by the Student Financial Services Office. Awards are determined for students through a combination of significant need as demonstrated on the FAFSA & the availability of funds.

TEACH (Teacher Education Assistance for College & Higher Education) Grant
For undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, or graduate students who are or will be taking course work necessary to become elementary or secondary school teachers.

State grants are based on financial need determined by the TAP. These awards are considered “gift aid” and do not need to be repaid by the student.

New York State Grant Programs

New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
The Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), New York's largest grant program, helps eligible New York residents attending in-state postsecondary institutions pay for tuition. TAP grants are based on the applicant’s and his or her family’s New York State taxable income.
