Creative Writing (Poetry), MFA
Program overview
The MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) is an intensive graduate program designed to support the development of poets through a combination of immersive residencies, workshop-based learning, and independent creative work. The program provides students with the opportunity to refine their poetic voice, deepen their understanding of poetic craft, and engage critically with contemporary and historical poetry.
Through a sequence of residencies and poetry workshops, students participate in close readings, peer critiques, and guided discussions that strengthen their ability to write, revise, and analyze poetry. The curriculum encourages experimentation with form, language, and style while fostering a supportive creative community. As students progress through the program, they develop a substantial body of original work that culminates in a thesis manuscript of poetry.
Graduates of the program emerge with advanced writing skills, a deeper appreciation of literary traditions, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to contemporary poetic and literary communities.
