Our mission is in the title! The Office of Opportunity Programs advocates and provides students with meaningful opportunities. Students in our signature programs are often awarded scholarships, receive targeted academic support, gain guidance on applying to internships or research experiences, have access to exclusive opportunities, and so much more.

How we can help


McGuire Scholars

A majority of the McGuire Scholars who are first-generation college students receive a tuition-based scholarship, a book voucher, a support system, and the opportunity to engage with the SFC and the local community. Eligible new students are encouraged to apply during the admissions process (limited spots available).

CSTEP

Funded by the New York State Department of Education since 2020, Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) provides additional support services, financial assistance, and internship/research opportunities to a cohort of ~170 students. Eligible new & continuing students are encouraged to apply (limited spots available).

SRC

The STEM Resource Center (SRC) provides academic support, professional development and career readiness initiatives to students pursuing STEM fields. With a focus on students who identify as Hispanic/Latinx or from low-income households, students are encouraged to check their SFC email or view the SRC website for upcoming opportunities.

First-Generation Center

NEW! Located in the Center for Learning and Leadership (Room 6108), the First-Generation Center serves students where neither parent has received a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution of higher learning.

LHVCCUC Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program

Sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Lower Hudson Valley Catholic Colleges and Universities Consortium Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program (LHVCCUC LSAMP Program) aims to help address the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce pipeline challenges by helping to increase the numbers of students from historically underrepresented minority (URM) populations to complete high-quality degree programs in STEM.
Four Main Goals

LHVCCUC LSAMP Program

Increase the enrollment of URMs in STEM majors

Improve first-to-second year retention

Cultivate strong STEM/scientist identities through STEM enrichment activities

Support successful entry into graduate study and STEM careers
