Program overview:

The minor in Writing is intended for students who would like to improve their writing through a variety of workshop formats. The minor aims to assist students with craft and form in both fiction and nonfiction. The minor prepares students for careers in which written communication skills are essential for advancement.

CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS

The Writing curriculum begins with foundational courses in Writing and Research and Writing and Publishing, which help students develop strong skills in organizing ideas, conducting research, and communicating effectively across different forms of writing. Students then explore a range of creative and analytical writing courses, including Writing Poetry, Writing Fiction, Advanced Fiction Writing, and Critical Writing and Analysis, allowing them to refine their voice and deepen their understanding of literary craft.

Courses such as Introduction to Digital Publishing and selected Special Topics provide opportunities to engage with contemporary publishing practices and emerging forms of storytelling. Through this combination of creative, analytical, and digital writing experiences, students build versatile writing skills that can be applied across academic, professional, and creative contexts.
