Criminal Justice, A.A.S.
Program overview:
The Criminal Justice A.A.S. program provides students with a foundational understanding of the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, the court system, and corrections. The program introduces students to key concepts in criminology, policing, criminal law, and correctional practices while examining the social and legal factors that influence crime and justice in society.
Students develop practical knowledge of how the criminal justice system operates and gain insight into the roles and responsibilities of professionals working in public safety and law enforcement. Coursework emphasizes critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and an understanding of legal procedures, preparing students to respond effectively to real-world challenges in the field.
The program also focuses on communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills that are essential for careers in law enforcement, corrections, security, and other public safety professions. Students learn how criminal justice policies and practices impact communities and explore strategies for crime prevention and community engagement.
Graduates of the program are prepared for entry-level positions in criminal justice and public safety fields or to continue their education in a bachelor’s degree program in criminal justice or related disciplines.

Our SFC community is enhanced by the centers housed in the Sociology and Criminal Justice Department. The centers host an array of interdisciplinary guest speakers, journalists, practitioners, community activists, and research professionals. The centers are primary sponsors of the SFC Senior Lecture Series and regularly host events, film/documentary screenings, and seminars. The series brings together students, senior citizens, and other community members to explore historical and contemporary developments in sociology and criminology.
