A Talk with Artist Al Diaz

November 21, 2022
1 P.M. - 2:30 P.M.
St. Francis College
Auditorium

St. Francis College presents an in-depth conversation with legendary graffiti artist Al Diaz, founding member of the collective SAMO©. The New York City native will discuss his history as a graffiti pioneer in partnership with the late Jean-Michel Basquiat and present a retrospective of past and current work.

Diaz will be joined in conversation by Amy Linden, a veteran critic, arts journalist and educator whose work has appeared in numerous publications, including VIBE, The Source, XXL, SPIN, the New York Times, People and The Village Voice. Her essays have been published in anthologies such as The Rolling Stone Women in Rock Collection, Rock She Wrote and Rip It Up: The Black Experience in Rock 'n' Roll. She also served as a consultant for the Oscar-winning documentary Amy, based on the life of the late singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse. In addition to being a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominating committee, Linden co-hosts the podcast ImmaLetYouFinish... and teaches at Borough of Manhattan Community College, NYU’s Clive Davis Institute and St. Francis College.
