Dr. Allen Burdowski Named Associate Dean for Graduate and Professional Studies

St. Francis College is proud to announce Dr. Allen Burdowski is now the new Associate Dean for Graduate and Professional Studies. Dr. Burdowski is currently the Chairman of the Biology Department, Chairman of the IT Department and Director of the Faculty Center for Curriculum and Technology.

"From day one, Dr. Burdowski has proven himself as an overachieving professor with a strong academic background and who cares deeply for his students," said St. Francis President Frank Macchiarola. "We know he will take this already successful program to new heights."

Dr. Burdowski came to St. Francis from Yeshiva University in September of 2001. Among his past work, he was an assistant professor of Biology at Fordham University and a post doctoral fellow at Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Burdowski received his Ph.D. from New York University.

Along with Dr. Steven Lipson, Dr. Burdowski has received national attention for his research into using cranberries to fight enteric viruses. Results from further experiments in this field are now being reviewed and the two expect to publish again sometime next year. He has also created innovative courses to train non-public school teachers and other non-traditional students in the use of technology.

The Graduate and Professional Studies program offers flexible college programs that enable working adults and other nontraditional students to complete their college work while continuing to work full-time.

Students can work towards a combined Bachelor's Degree / Master's Degree in Accounting, a RN to Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and several other Bachelor of Science options.

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City's five boroughs and beyond.
