forbes.com Names St. Francis Among America's Best Colleges for Thrid Year in a Row

For the third year in a row, St. Francis College was named by Forbes.com to their list of America’s Best Colleges. The Forbes.com list is an exclusive ranking, which includes only the top 9% of accredited post-secondary institutions across the country.

“The large number of applications we’ve gotten the past several years and the record size of our incoming freshman class for the second year in a row tells us we’re doing a lot of things right,” said St. Francis College President Brendan J. Dugan ’68. “Being recognized by Forbes.com is particularly satisfying because they focus on issues that sit at the core of our mission; quality professors, graduation rates and providing a strong foundation for the future success of our alumni. We do all of that at a very cost-conscious price.”

The Forbes.com rankings methodology puts an emphasis on several questions including: “Do students enjoy their classes and overall academic experience?”, “Do graduates succeed well in their occupations after college?” and “Do students incur massive debts while in schools?”

The newest incoming class will begin their time at St. Francis Wednesday, September 1 on Terrier Day. Terrier Day is a mandatory part of orientation for incoming freshman that introduces them to all the various clubs, athletics teams and extracurricular activities at the College.

“We know that starting College can be a daunting challenge for a teenager,” said Associate Director of Student Activities Ruben Gonzalez. “If we can help them build a social network before classes even begin, we know that will go a long way to making their college experience a strong one.”

New in the fall semester, St. Francis is proud to now offer its second Master’s Degree program. The new Master’s in Professional Accountancy is a two-year program that qualifies all graduates to sit for the CPA exam. It complements the already existing five-year combined Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree program.

“This new Master’s Degree lets us reach a group of people who may be thinking about a career change, a new career or simply want to enhance their current job status,” said Chair of the Accounting Department Carmine Nogara. “Our track record of success in accounting makes this a natural expansion of the opportunities we offer.”

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City’s five boroughs and beyond.
