New Dean Jose Rodriguez Focused on Developing Whole Student

Dr. Jose Rodriguez Brings Experience and Excellence to St. Francis College

St. Francis College is pleased to welcome new Dean of Students, Dr. Jose Rodriguez to Brooklyn Heights, an experienced administrator and educator who is ready to forge new relationships and support St. Francis students when the 2014-2015 school year begins in just two weeks.

Dean Rodriguez says joining the team at St. Francis was important to him because he wanted to join, "a community that is committed to enhancing the lives of students and assisting them to develop into ethical, responsible and compassionate citizens."

Dr. Rodriguez comes to St. Francis College from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences where he was Vice President of Campus Life and Global Initiatives. His responsibilities at Albany College included student conduct, intercultural affairs, and diversity. Dean Rodriguez also coordinated the college's global outreach efforts.

"It is my conviction that student life administrators are educators, a seamless part of a campus culture that focuses on actively engaging students in a wide range of learning opportunities that both challenge and support their development," said Rodriguez.Before going north to Albany, Dean Rodriguez was Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at St. John's University.

At St. Francis he will work directly with students while also overseeing student activities, career development, the student health center, residence life and disability.

Dr. Rodriguez graduated from Teachers College at Columbia University with a Doctor of Education as well as Masters Degrees in Education and Arts. Before that he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Counseling from Manhattan College.

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City's five boroughs and beyond.
