On October 7, Order My Steps, a short film directed by Augusta Palmer, chair of the Department of Media and Communication at St. Francis College, and written by Kathryn Grant, an instructor in the department, will make its national debut at the inaugural Bread and Roses Film Festival, in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

The Bread and Roses Film Festival elevates and celebrates the unique and diverse voices of female filmmakers from around the world. Forty films — including narrative and documentary films, animated films, experimental shorts and music videos — by women from 10 different countries are scheduled to be showcased this weekend.

Palmer and Grant’s film chronicles the fictional account of Peg Rives, an inmate at a federal prison who reaches out to her daughter, Dorian, whose custody she lost 20 years earlier. The two women struggle to find a way forward despite the obstacles that time, trauma and incarceration have placed in the way.

Order My Steps celebrated its world premiere this summer at the Women Deliver Arts & Film Festival, which was held in Kigali, Rwanda. The film will be screened later this month at the sixth annual Mystic Film Festival, where it was selected to compete in the Best Narrative Short category.
