Poet Daisy Fried

The St. Francis College Women's Poetry Initiative welcomed Daisy Fried as featured poet for the group's Spring Reading on Wednesday, March 5 at 4:30pm.

Ms. Fried has authored three books of poetry, including the most recent, Women's Poetry: Poems and Advice, which was named one of the 5 Best Poetry Books of 2013 by Library Journal. When she's not writing her own work, Fried reviews poetry books for the New York Times and elsewhere. She is also a recent Guggenheim scholar and teaches at Warren Wilson College's MFA Program for Writers.

Biography
Besides Women's Poetry, Fried also penned, My Brother is Getting Arrested Again, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and She Didn't Mean to Do It, which won the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize. Her poems have appeared recently in the Best American Poetry 2013, London Review of Books, The Nation, The New Republic, Poetry, American Poetry Review, Threepenny Review and elsewhere. She has been awarded Guggenheim, Hodder and Pew Fellowships, a Pushcart Prize, the Editors' Prize from Poetry and the Cohen Award from Ploughshares, and was for two years the Grace Hazard Conkling Writer-in-Residence at Smith College.
