Ribbon-Cutting Held for SFC Radio’s New Studio

Radio booth

Dozens of St. Francis College (SFC) students, faculty and staff gathered on the sixth floor yesterday to celebrate the official opening of SFC Radio’s studio at 179 Livingston Street. The two-room studio is equipped with the latest industry-standard software and hardware.

At the ceremony, remarks were made by several special guests, beginning with Marc Ernay, 1010 WINS’ sports director and morning-drive anchor. As a Franciscan Fellow at the College for the 2022-2023 academic year, Ernay will be involved in several initiatives, including teaching a sports broadcasting course, hosting a community lecture, working with SFC Radio students and those in Dr. Brian Gregory’s radio course, and helping to connect the Terrier Sports Network with SFC for potential programming with coaches and athletes.

“The technology at our disposal is amazing,” said Ernay. “I’m really excited for the future of this endeavor and to be a part of the ride.” It was a sentiment echoed by another guest, journalist Bomani Jones, an influential voice in sports media who entertains audiences with television, podcast and radio programming on ESPN: “I’ve never worked in a radio studio as nice as this one. It’s a fantastic place and space.”

Media executive Rahsan-Rahsan Lindsay, who currently serves as the CEO of MediaCo Holding, the parent company of HOT 97, WBLS and Fairway Outdoor, told attendees that, while radio doesn’t have the power it once had, it is still a “powerful medium that has the potential to reinvent itself.”

Established in 2016, SFC Radio is the College's student-run radio station, featuring a variety of student- and faculty-produced music and talk-based programs and events. SFC Radio programming is livestreamed on the station’s website and can be accessed on apps and websites including TuneIn, RadioFX (the official app for college radio), Spotify, Apple Music and SoundCloud.
