SFC Ranked a Best College for Your Money

4th Year in a Row on Money Magazine List

money 2017-2018

For the past four years, Money magazine, has poured over data to provide a list of the top colleges that offer students a quality, affordable education with successful outcomes. Each of those four years, St. Francis College has been recognized, including on the newly released 2017-2018 Best Colleges for Your Money list.

"St. Francis College continues to appear on so many of these 'best of' lists because they measure the very same things that build the foundation of the College's mission; to offer an excellent, accessible, and well-rounded private, college education to anyone who strives to achieves their dreams," said St. Francis College Interim President Timothy J. Houlihan. "Our highly regarded professors take a deep, personal interest in helping our students succeed and instill in them a strong sense of community and a commitment to helping others."

Among those students are Adriannah Rodriguez '17, former president of the Duns Scotus Honor Society, co-captain of the Dance Team, President of the Latin American Society, and founding member of the LGBTQ Club. Rodriguez also worked while earning her undergraduate degree in Health Promotions and Science. Her many activities and excellent grades earned her a scholarship to attend NYU for their graduate program in Physical Therapy.

Adriannah's story is not unique.

It is reflected in two new measurements that Money included in this year's rankings: socio-economic mobility and value-added rates.

Economic mobility, measured by the Equality of Opportunity Project found that St. Francis was 33rd out of more than 2200 colleges in helping students from the bottom economic group reach the top economic group.

The New York Times looked at the same data and found that St. Francis was 13th out of 578 selective, private colleges on their Upward Mobility Index**.

For the value-added assessment, Money writes: "We estimate a college's "value-add" by calculating its performance on important measures such as graduation rates, student loan repayment and default rates, and post-graduation earnings, after adjusting for the types of students it admits. We believe this analysis gives students and parents a much better indication of which colleges will provide real value for their tuition dollars."*

"Our success with value-add is a special mark of pride for the College because it shows that we work hard to help every student," added President Houlihan. "These results mean that based on where they come from, students from a variety of cultures, ethnicities, and economic status do better at St. Francis than predicted."
