SFC Welcomes Largest Incoming Class in History

Freshmen Greeted With Expanded Programs, Upgrades Labs, and Accolades

The largest incoming class of freshmen students in St. Francis College history begins their college career on Tuesday, September 4 with Terrier Tuesday, a day for the more than 625 freshman to come together socially and learn about all the clubs, organizations and extracurricular activities St. Francis has to offer.

“Giving our newest, incoming class even one day together to build relationships before classes start has proven to be wildly successful,” said Associate Director of Student Activities Ruben Gonzalez ’04. “So many graduates have told me that the friends they made on Terrier Tuesday stayed with them all through their time at St. Francis and beyond graduation.”

The record incoming class comes on the heels of the College’s largest graduating class which attended their commencement in May at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

“We’ve been telling people about our modest tuition, generous scholarships and excellent job placement for years,” said St. Francis College President Brendan J. Dugan ‘68. “People are listening and the students are coming to Brooklyn Heights in record numbers. It validates all the hard work of our professors, administrators and staff.”

More and more of those students are also coming from further away, boosting the number staying in the dorm to a record of nearly 150.

America’s Top Colleges
Confirmation of the success of the programs at St. Francis comes from Forbes.com which for the fifth year in a row ranked St. Francis College on its list of America’s Top Colleges. The list puts a “focus on the things that matter the most to students: quality of teaching, great career prospects, high graduation rates and low-levels of debt,” writes Michael Noer, Forbes Editor of the America’s Top Colleges list on the forbes.com website.

Psychology Master’s Degree
Students can now also enroll in the new Psychology Five-Year Combined Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Program. This BA/MA program offers two tracks, an Applied Psychology tract which gives real-world experiences and sets students up for a career in Psychology and a research based tract that positions students for admittance to a doctorate program.

New Science Labs / Lecture Hall
Students in the sciences have access to a second entire floor of new state-of-the-art science labs. These multi-purpose labs can be used for Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Health Promotion courses and are set up for research and experimentation.

A new stadium-seating lecture hall has also just been completed with multiple video screens, microphones and outlets at each desk as well as teleconferencing capabilities. Now students can be a part of lectures by international experts from around the world.

This is the second floor of labs to get a top-to-bottom renovation in the past two years.

New Website
St. Francis also unveiled a new look website over the summer. SFC.edu leads prospective students and their parents right to the information they need to decide if St. Francis is the right college for them.

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City’s five boroughs and beyond.
