Sophomore Guard Named to Academic All-District First Team

Sophomore guard Sarah Benedetti (Canton,CT/Canton) was named to the 2012-13 Capital One Women's Basketball Academic All-District First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. (More at sfcathletics.com)

Benedetti, a Political Science major with a 3.94 GPA, is one of two Northeast Conference players recognized for First-Team Academic All-District team honors. She now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

The second-year guard tied the St. Francis Brooklyn school-record for made-three pointers with seven during her first season back on 1/28/12 at Robert Morris. In the classroom, Benedetti maintained a 4.0 GPA her freshman year. The Canton, Connecticut native was named to the 2012 Northeast Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll and Northeast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.

This season, she ranks among the nation's best in three-point shooting, ranking 12th out of 250 ranked in three-point field goal percentage at 43.1 percent. Amongst all Northeast Conference players, she ranks 1st in three-point field goals made per game; 2nd in three-point field goal percentage, 12th in the league in scoring, and 15th in field goal percentage.
