U.S.News Latest to Recognize St. Francis for Excellence

As St. Francis College students settled in to their new routines for the fall 2014 semester they all heard some good news about the college; U.S.News & World Report has once again ranked St. Francis as a Top Regional College in the North. (Learn more)

“We do all we can to create an environment where our students can thrive and succeed,” said St. Francis College President Brendan J. Dugan ’68. “Having this type of recognition is a great compliment to the faculty and administrators for all their hard work as well as to the students who graduate from St. Francis and go on to make a difference in the world.”

U.S.News bases its rankings on a number of factors including graduation rates, faculty resources, and assessments from peer colleges.

“There’s a strong emphasis on small class sizes and developing mentor/student relationships at the College,” said Provost Timothy Houlihan. “Our professors are heavily invested in the future of their students and I think that is reflected in our ranking.”

Other organizations have also ranked St. Francis on their annual “best of “lists. The Money magazine list focuses on quality of education, affordability and outcomes, while Forbes.com ranked St. Francis for post-graduate success, student debt and student satisfaction.

This fall, St. Francis College launched a new program that will be figured into the next round of ranking; an Undergraduate Degree in Nursing. The BSN program is fully accredited by CCNE, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and prepares students to sit for the NYCLEX nursing exam.

The backbone of the program is the College’s brand new Nursing Lab with state-of-the-art simulators (SimMan, SimBaby, SimMom) that mimic illnesses and medical conditions. A full one quarter of the BSN program will be spent using these simulators.

The program also offers students the opportunity to study at world renowned hospitals across New York City.
