St. Francis College's Accounting Program Ranks Among Nation's Best
St. Francis College's Accounting department is among the nation's best, according to a new national ranking from the online career and college resource Study.com, a testament to the strength of its academic program and its success preparing students for good careers.
Study.com evaluated hundreds of schools in the United States and ranked the top 50 accounting programs based on data from the U.S. Department of Education as well as each school's academic and career resources, the quality of education, and program accessibility, among other factors.
St. Francis came in 47th on a list that also includes large state university systems like Rutgers, Penn State and University of Wisconsin. The College's "distinguished faculty" were singled out in the study's assessment.
"Ranking among the nation's best accounting programs is not only is a badge of honor for our faculty but is a tribute to the long record of success among our students and graduates," said Carmine Nogara, Ph.D., Chair of the SFC Department of Accounting and Business Law. "Our rigorous programs prepare students to succeed professionally, and that's what makes us most proud. Seeing our alumni thriving in careers they love is evidence of the efficacy of our work."
Accounting is a flagship academic department at St. Francis, offering a combined five-year Bachelor's and Master's degree program, as well as a two-year Master's program. Its graduates frequently land coveted jobs at Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, and KPMG, the world's four largest accounting firms -- known as The Big Four -- that are generally viewed as some of the industry's most prestigious.
The College has awarded undergraduate accounting degrees for decades, and the first class of graduate students received their degrees in the spring of 2008, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of St. Francis. Since then, the number of graduates has tripled in size and the program continues to attract highly qualified and motivated students.
"I'm constantly learning throughout my career which keeps my job interesting," said Theresa Franchi, who earned a combined BS/MS Accounting degree in 2018 and is now a senior tax associate at Warner Music Group after a stint at Deloitte. "I'm very grateful for all of the accounting professors and the strong foundation that St. Francis College has provided me."
