St. Francis Tapped as a Top Baccalaureate School in the North

U.S.News & World Report Names SFC to List Second Year in a Row

For the second straight year St. Francis College has been named by U.S.News & World Report as one of the top Baccalaureate Colleges in the North for 2010. This selection comes one week after Forbes.com recognized the College on its list of America’s Best Colleges.

“Year after year, we do everything we can to not just enrich the academic experience at St. Francis College, but to prepare our students to become positive citizens of the world,” said St. Francis President Brendan J. Dugan. “We’re proud that we are continuing to be recognized for these efforts and that our students continue to benefit from their time here.”

U.S.News news places colleges in the Baccalaureate category if Liberal Arts degrees account for less than half of all degrees. The remaining degrees come in fields like Business, Nursing, and Education.

“We have an almost even mix of degrees here at St. Francis College,” said Vice President for Academic Affairs and Academic Dean Tim Houlihan. “And while all our students are assured a strong Liberal Arts foundation, our track record of students coming out of our Accounting, Management and Education programs shows that we are able to provide a diverse and quality education to people with very different goals.”

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City’s five boroughs and beyond.
