“Our faculty, staff, and administrators are focused on creating the best environment for our students.” said St. Francis College President Brendan J. Dugan ’68. “We work hard every day to give them the tools they need to succeed. Being recognized in a publication like U.S.News shows what we’re doing is working.”

U.S.News bases its rankings on a number of factors including graduation rates, faculty resources, and assessments of excellence from peer colleges.

“Our professors are heavily invested in their work and take pride in having the opportunity to mentor and nurture our students on a one on one basis,” said Provost Timothy Houlihan. “With small class sizes, every student has the chance to develop long-term, professional relationships that go beyond the classroom.”

Just a few weeks ago, St. Francis received more good news from other publications. Money Magazine gave the College a grade of A- while Forbes selected St. Francis as one of America’s Top Colleges for the eighth year in a row.

The good news spread to the streets for the College’s annual Terrier Tuesday event. On Terrier Tuesday all freshman and new transfer students come to campus to meet their new classmates, learn about all the clubs and activities available on campus, and take care of any last minute details.

This year, the college was able to close off Remsen Street for an afternoon block party featuring a barbecue, carnival games, music, and more. The college also presented championship rings to the Women’s Basketball Team which made the NCAA tournament for the first time in College history after winning the NEC Tournament.

More impressive than their feats on the court, the team placed second in the nation for grade point average (3.656 GPA). Among the players were starting point guard Katie Fox who finished with a perfect 4.0 and Sarah Benedetti (3.96 GPA) who earned the ECAC Division I Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City’s five boroughs and beyond.
