Women’s History Month at SFC
Each March, St. Francis College proudly joins the rest of the nation in celebrating Women’s History Month. As an educational institution, we have long supported building an ever more welcoming campus community and raising awareness of women’s issues and achievements.
One of our alumnae, Sparkle L. Sooknanan ’02, was recently nominated by President Biden to serve as a district judge on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. We congratulate her on this honor! In keeping with SFC’s proud tradition, Ms. Sooknanan is a first-generation college student from Trinidad and Tobago.
All in the SFC community are invited and encouraged to attend the following specially organized events and activities. In addition, SFC’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is organizing a social-media campaign on Instagram in celebration of Women’s History Month. Please follow @sfcmulticultural for additional events and student-engagement opportunities.
- Into the Mind of a Woman
Thursday, March 7, 1-2:30 p.m., Center for Inclusion and Excellence (Room 5206)
Guest speakers — including Natasha Edwards, Director of Health Promotion and Wellness at SFC — will address the topic of mental health.
- Women of SFC: Who Are We?
Monday, March 25, 1-3 p.m., Multipurpose Room
The purpose of this event, sponsored by the Female-Identifying Club, is to understand, empower and connect. Participants will have a safe space to share their experience of what it means to be a woman in higher education and arrive at a deeper understanding of our likenesses and differences.
The national theme of Women’s History Month 2024 is “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” As we reflect on the many contributions and achievements of women across the globe and across time, let us recommit to supporting one another in harmony with our Franciscan mission and values.
