Gabriella Coleman Presents Third Annual Francis J. Greene Honors Lecture
The St. Francis College Honors Program, under the direction of Dr. John Dilyard, welcomed Gabriella (Biella) Coleman to present the Third Annual Dr. Francis J. Greene Honors Lecture, Hacker, Hoaxer, Whistleblower, Spy: The Many Faces of Anonymous, on November 13, 2014.
Dr. Dilyard noted that "not only is this topic timely in terms of current events, but it also is a nice complement to the theme of this year's Freshman Honors Seminars - Living in a Digital World."
Gabriella (Biella) Coleman holds the Wolfe Chair in Scientific and Technological Literacy at McGill University. Trained as a cultural anthropologist, she researches, writes, and teaches on computer hackers and digital activism. She is the author of Coding Freedom: The Ethics and Aesthetics of Hacking published with Princeton University Press.
The lecture is named for Dr. Francis Greene, who has been a professor at St. Francis College for more than 30 years. Professor Greene founded the Honors Program and was the long-time moderator of the Duns Scotus Honor Society and chair of the Department of Foreign Languages, Fine Arts, and International Cultural Studies, where he still teaches. He was also Co-Director of the College's Study Abroad program.
