I am originally from Turkey and hold a Ph.D. in Economics (2023) from the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC). My research focuses on political economy, platform and gig economy, digital capitalism, and ecological economics, with a particular emphasis on value theory, monopolization, and capital accumulation in digital labor markets. My dissertation examined the mechanisms of value creation and rent appropriation in platform capitalism, with Uber and the gig economy as central cases. My work on "Interlocking, Control, and Gig Economy: The Artisan Courier Model in Turkey," will be published in the Journal of Economic Issues. I presented at venues including the Eastern Economic Association, URPE at ASSA, and the International Confederation of Associations for Pluralism in Economics (ICAPE). I am also the recipient of the Joe E. Brown Institutional Economics Award (2020).
At St. Francis College, I teach courses including Introduction to Microeconomics, Introduction to Macroeconomics, Environmental Economics, Political Economy of Development, Radical Economic Thought, History of Economic Thought, and Digital and Platform Economy. My pedagogical approach is grounded in academic pluralism — I introduce students to a broad spectrum of economic theories, from neoclassical and Post-Keynesian frameworks to Institutionalist, Marxist, and ecofeminist perspectives, fostering critical thinking and a nuanced understanding of contemporary economic life. I also serve as a faculty mentor for the Fed College Challenge.
