Eligibility for direct MD entry at SGU

GPA: Minimum 3.0 in SFC’s Pre-Medical Post-Baccalaureate program.

Course grades: No grade below “C” in any program course.

MCAT: Minimum score of 493.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completing coursework required for the degree, students will be able to:

Apply chemistry, physics, and math concepts to biology.

• Apply appropriate mathematical concepts to science.

• Apply concepts from across multiple fields within biology, such as ecology, evolution, molecular, cellular, micro, and organismal biology.

• Explain the structure, properties, and reactions of chemicals and biomolecules.

• Apply appropriate safety principles when conducting scientific experiments.

• Analyze data gathered through experiments or public data repositories.

• Evaluate orally and in written work scientific data obtained by experiment.

• Explain different physical phenomena.

• Use data to make and test hypotheses, and draw general conclusions.

• Develop skills necessary to complete an MD program.

Curriculum Highlights

The Postbaccalaureate Premedical Certificate Program will require 48 credits. All courses were selected as part of SFC’s postbaccalaureate articulation agreement with St. George’s University, although these courses could be accepted by any medical school.

• General Biology II and Lab (BIO 1202), 5 Credits
• General Chemistry I and Lab (CHE 1201), 5 Credits
• General Chemistry II and Lab (CHE 1202), 5 Credits
• Organic Chemistry I and Lab (CHE 2101), 5 Credits
• Organic Chemistry II and Lab (CHE 2102), 5 Credits
• General Physics I and Lab (PHY 2001), 4 Credits
• Statistics (MAT 2301), 3 credits, or Calculus I (MAT 2202), 4 Credits
• One 2000-level Literature Writing and Publishing course, 3 Credits
