Carroll and Milton Petrie Student Emergency Grant Fund
St. Francis College has been awarded the Carroll and Milton Petrie Student Emergency Grant Fund!
In March 2024, the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation awarded St. Francis College a grant to provide emergency financial assistance to eligible students who are experiencing hardship which could adversely affect their educational success. The main criterion for this grant is the demonstration of a genuine need where continued study may be in jeopardy due to financial hardship.
The SFC Petrie Committee oversees the application and fund distribution process. The Committee is comprised of representative from key student support areas such as Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Campus Life and Opportunity Programs.
Emergencies That Qualify for a Petrie Grant Include
- Homelessness or sudden loss of housing.
- Fire in living quarters
- Travel expenses due to illness/death in the immediate family.
- Overdue utility bills/turn-off notice
- Theft of computers, books, clothing, or other essential belongings
- Medical/dental emergencies
- Food or transportation needs
- Temporary loss of job or income
- Transportation card
- Loss of childcare
- Victims of domestic violence
- Other (applicants may provide an explanation of their emergency in the personal statement)
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a full-time student in good academic standing.
- Complete and submit the Student Emergency Grant Application.
- Submit documentation to support their emergency.
- Speak with an SFC Petrie Foundation Committee Member.
Carroll and Milton Petrie Student Emergency Grant Fund Aid Will Not Be Awarded
- To cover previous college debts.
- To cover recurring debts including credit card debt and cable/cellphone bills.
- To pay for full or partial tuition or college fees.
- To pay for legal representation in a criminal proceeding or St. Francis College disciplinary proceeding.
*The grant offers awards of up to $1500.00 per semester. The SFC Petrie Committee will determine the actual award amount based on the student's demonstrated need as outlined in their application and supported by the required documentation.
*Please be aware that these grants are not provided as cash. The funding awarded to students cannot exceed the amount requested.
Please note the Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation prohibits colleges and universities from awarding funds to pay for tuition or college fees.
Student emergency grant awards are limited and subject to fund availability. Applying for an emergency grant does not guarantee an award. The SFC Petrie Committee has the discretion to limit or deny funding for students with Bursar or Academic holds.
