Waiting and Trusting in God's Perfect Timing
In our fast-paced world, where instant gratification persists, it's easy to become caught up in a relentless pursuit to hurriedly achieve our goals and desires. Some of us may seek calculated and immediate results—like graduating on time, acquiring a promotion, securing a new job, and so on, which can be overwhelming and pressuring. With each passing day, the significance of waiting, patience, and trust seems to diminish, leading to hopelessness, disappointment, and frustration when life doesn't go according to our plans. Yet, St. Francis of Assisi's life is a beautiful and inspiring testament to the grace and goodness of waiting and trusting in God's perfect timing.
St. Francis's conversion wasn't instantaneous; it was a transformation that took twenty-five years before he gradually realized, understood, and embraced God's calling for him. During his youth, he was captivated and distracted by worldly pleasures and materialism, desiring wealth and status as a noble knight. He sought after what he believed would provide him with happiness and purpose. However, amidst all this, God awaited Francis's awakening. Upon going through a period of introspection and wholeheartedly dedicating himself to meaningful engagement with God, Francis comes to grasp that God's timing is always right, never early or late. He discovered fulfillment and contentment in being of service to God and others, steering toward a life of simplicity and authenticity.
Much like St. Francis, we deal with uncertainties, which fill us with anticipation, anxiety, overthinking, and doubts, making us question whether we can sense God's presence or if He genuinely hears us. In these moments, all of us are called to be patient and active in our waiting rather than passive, trusting that God is working behind the scenes and orchestrating everything to work out as it should. Inspired by Francis, let us be more intentional, fully present, and mindful while spending time with God—through prayer, Mass, or even as we do our daily tasks– to enrich our relationship with Him. Surrender everything to Him. From there, He will reveal His plans in His perfect timing.
Psalm 18:30: "As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him."
Isaiah 60:22: "At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen."
Ecclesiastes 3:11: "He has made everything beautiful in its time."
