Live Music and Art Experience Brings the Spirit of South Africa to Brooklyn

SFC Artist-in-Residence Curates South African-Inspired Experience

South African artist Yasser Booley will present a curated live music experience titled Yasser Booley in 3 Acts on September 28th at 6 p.m. at St. Francis College.

This experience begins outside of the College on Remsen Street with a djembe performance by local musician Zachary Levin-Caleb and a dance performance by SFC students. The first act takes guests on an exploration of select photos from Booley's current photo exhibit South Africa at Liberty.

"I want people to take away a feeling of possibility," said Booley, artist-in-residence at St. Francis College.

The second act previews Booley's latest project #easystreet, which features portraits of Americans accompanied by three questions: What is your understanding of the American Dream? What do you care about? What is your dream for America?

"My hope is that guests will be reminded about their common humanity and the power of art to transform and engage," Booley added.

The third act is a two-part video installation that will showcase the streets of Capetown on the gallery window and footage from the Bo Kaap, one of Capetown's oldest communities, on a separate screen in the gallery.

Yasser Booley in 3 Acts is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Tearanny Street at [email protected].
