Mirror Mirror on the wall..., Hosts Closing Reception With Artist Daphne Arthur
Artist Daphne Arthur will lead a discussion about her life and work at the closing reception for St. Francis College's Mirror Mirror on the Wall..., an exhibition of contemporary portraiture, figure drawing and sculpture by established and emerging artists from the Lise Curry Art Collection.
The closing reception takes place Thursday, December 5th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at 180 Remsen Street, Brooklyn Heights. It is free and open to the public. Register here: lisecurryclosing.eventbrite.com
Arthur is one of 31 artists represented in the show, which opened on September 19th in St. Francis College's Callahan Center.
Mirror Mirror on the Wall... is the first public display from Curry's collection. Amassed over a 30 year period, the private collector intends to gift more than 220 works to the College that reflect, in many cases, deeply personal, global perspectives on humanity and culture.
Arthur's Rapuncelle #5, a mixed-media collage on paper, is one of the 33 works on display in Mirror Mirror on the Wall...
A graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Arthur earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Yale University. Her artwork focuses on a combination of painting, sculpture, drawing, and uses smoke, paint, clay, and collage. It has been exhibited widely in galleries and museums in New York City and elsewhere in the United States and abroad.
"Every piece in Mirror Mirror on the Wall.. is deeply personal to me, and Daphne's beautiful work is no exception," said Lise Curry. "I am so honored she is joining us to close the exhibit. Her work and artistic achievements are of such great interest that her presentation will captivate and inspire."
Mirror Mirror on the Wall... remains open for viewing through December 17th. For more information about the exhibit and some of the artists in it, watch the videos available here.
