(Learn About Mothers and Prison)
When Alexandra went to prison, like many women, she left her daughter behind. Now Alexandra is working on a doctorate in sociology and studying the effects of maternal incarceration on children.
More than 56% of women in federal prison report that they are mothers, the vast majority of them nonviolent drug offenders serving harsh sentences.
St. Francis Professors Sara Rzeszutek Haviland and Emily Horowitz are Co-Directors of the series.
