New Videos, Spotlights on St. Francis Website

More Chances to Learn About Professors, Students, Alumni and Programs

New videos, more spotlights, a better experience for people who want to learn more about St. Francis College, it's all online now on the St. Francis website at www.sfc.edu.

"The more we let prospective students know about what we have to offer at St. Francis, the more they want to become part of our community," said St. Francis College's new President Brendan J. Dugan. "We've got our largest class of incoming freshman this year and a record number of applications. Enhancing our website will help to keep this momentum rolling so we can come back next year and report record numbers again."

Professors from the College's four main academic areas are featured in multiple videos, including Psychology Professor Jennifer Lancaster who talks about the research success and career paths of students, Biology Professor Irina Ellison who speaks about research trips and opportunities to work with Professors, Professor Richard Berleth of the Communications Arts Department who focuses on HDTV studio and Marketing courses and Professor Barbara Edington who's specializes in Project Management in the Information Technology division of the newly enhanced Management Department.

Among the students in the spotlight are Joe Neri, a Communications Major who also works in the HDTV lab helping other students with editing their movies, Brixhilda "Jill" Ismail, a Criminal Justice & Sociology Major who earned a free trip on the annual Franciscan Pilgrimage over Christmas and twins Steven and Theresa Romano. They didn't get into their first choice, NYU, when they first applied to colleges, but after attending St. Francis for a year, the Romano twins decided to stay even after slots opened up across the river.

New profiles of successful alumni have also been added to the site, including profiles on Wayne Williams, a Communications Major who is now Deputy Director to New York State Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries and Daniel Mangual, an Economics Major who helped build homes in Phuket, Thailand after the Tsunami of 2004. He is now attending the University of North Carolina Law School.

The St. Francis website is also constantly being updated with news and events for students and members of the community. Several events are already scheduled for this semester including the Inauguration of the College's 18th President, Brendan J. Dugan, with events the week of September 29, the Fall Open House October 26 and the first American Drama Conference with a performance by Joan Copeland and panel on the state of Broadway featuring three prominent New York Theater Critics.

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City's five boroughs and beyond.
