NYU's Dr. John Sexton to Address St. Francis College as Keynote Speaker at This Year's Charter Day Convocation

John Sexton, Ph.D., President Emeritus of New York University, will address the St. Francis College community as keynote speaker at the Charter Day convocation, the college's annual ceremony to present students, faculty, staff and community partners with awards and scholarships reflecting their achievements over the past year.

The fifteenth president of New York University, Dr. Sexton joined NYU School of Law's faculty in 1981, was named the Law School's dean in 1988, and served as the University's president from 2002 to 2015. From 1966 to 1975, he chaired SFC's Religion Department.

Dr. Sexton's vision for NYU included greatly expanding its global footprint, and during his administration NYU opened campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai.

In addition to the address from Dr. Sexton, the Charter Day convocation on April 26th will honor Michael Quinn (SFC '97), CEO of Feltman's of Coney Island, LLC with this year's St. Francis College Entrepreneurship Award.

Eleven new students will be inducted into the Duns Scotus Honor Society during the ceremony. Membership is based on high scholastic standing, participation in extracurricular activities, evidence of loyalty to the ideals of St. Francis College and demonstration of a true Franciscan spirit.

The convocation also includes the presentations of Pax et Bonum Medals and the President's Award for fifteen and twenty-five years of dedicated service, Class of 2019 Academic Awards, and the Joseph Giordano Student Entrepreneur Award.

A list of all the awards and scholarships presented at the Charter Day convocation, and the recipients of each, is below.

Charter Day marks the date in 1884 that the Legislature of the State of New York granted a Charter to the Board of Trustees of St. Francis Monastery, officially establishing St. Francis College.

The ceremony is free and open to the public. It takes place April 26th at 3pm in St. Francis College's Founders Hall (180 Remsen Street, Brooklyn).

To attend, RSVP by April 20, 2019 to 718-489-5271 or [email protected].
