SFC Welcomes 60+ to New Biology Honor Society

TriBeta Biology Honors Society Opens Chapter at St. Francis College

A new Honor Society comes to St. Francis College and with it, the opportunity for students to apply for research grants and present their work at national conventions.

The newly formed Chi Delta Gamma chapter of the Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society (TriBeta) held it opening induction ceremony February 9, 2018, adding more than 60 people to the chapter. Among the inductees were 31 Nursing students, 25 Biology majors, and 8 Biology and Health Promotion professors.

Annemarie Bettica, Ph.D., a retired biology professor from Manhattanville College presided over the event, which featured candles, the presentation of an honors charter, recital of pledges, and the distribution of certificates and keychains.

"It was a lot of work to put his evening together, but it was so worth it!" said TriBeta Faculty Advisor and Chair of the Biology, Health Promotion, and Health Care Management Department Kathleen Nolan. "We now have a new TriBeta chapter, complete with elected students officers. Hopefully, the chapter will enhance everyone's involvement and experience in the biological sciences."


Planning for the ceremony and preparations for the students were handled by Noemi Rivera '12, Biology Academic Advisor and Departmental Assistant who was also inducted into TriBeta.

There are three flames on the TriBeta logo which represent: scholarship in the biological sciences; dissemination of biological knowledge; and research.

The TriBeta Honor Society has 626 chapters around the US. It was founded in 1922 and promotes cooperation in biological research and scholarship.
