St. Francis Accounting Professor Carmine Nogara Elected to Borough Council

Applies 25 Years of Experience to Government Position

When St. Francis College Accounting Professor Carmine Nogara talks to his class this spring about government accounting he will have a whole new perspective on the subject. Today, Nogara will be sworn in to begin serving on the Glen Rock, New Jersey Borough Council.

“I decided to run for Council because of my background in accounting and finance,” said Professor Nogara. “I am a practicing CPA with 25 years of experience and I teach Governmental Accounting. All public corporations are required to have a financial expert on their board of directors, so the same should be true for governing bodies.”

Glen Rock, located in Bergen County in northern New Jersey is home to about 12,000 residents.

“This was really the first time I even considered running for any office and the first election I ever ran in. I was up against two popular incumbents and was considered a longshot,” added Nogara. “But I had a terrific campaign team working for me and I performed well in the debates. Now, I look forward to serving my community.”

Professor Nogara holds a Ph.D. in Accounting from Pace University. He has been a faculty member at St. Francis College since 2002 and at various other colleges since 1994. In addition to his duties as Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Business Law, he currently manages his own Accounting and Tax practice. Prior to teaching, he served as an Accountant in private industry with Swiss Reinsurance Company. He has been a member of the Accounting Advisory Boards for both Bergen Community College (N.J.) and Bronx Community College (N.Y.). He also serves as a volunteer firefighter for the Glen Rock Fire Department.

St. Francis College, founded in 1859 by the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, is located in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. Since its founding, the College has pursued its Franciscan mission to provide an affordable, high-quality education to students from New York City’s five boroughs and beyond.
