Statement on School Shooting in Texas

Dear SFC Community,

By now you have learned of the shooting that occurred at the elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, which ended the lives of 19 children and three adults. To say I am saddened and that my heart goes out to the grieving families and everyone who was injured that day, as well as to those who are retraumatized with every act of senseless violence that continues to materialize in our midst, understates the anguish that these situations evoke.

The recurrence of incidents such as the one we are having to experience calls us to focus on being living and breathing agents of peace and peace-making. As I said just last week, we must be reminded that those who are suffering and grieving will only feel the “love of God and neighbor” if we commit to being the source of love, of compassion and of mercy.

If you are interested in one-to-one counseling, please visit the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness webpage at Student Health | St. Francis College (sfc.edu) or email [email protected].

If you would like to request a prayer, contact Brother Greg Cellini of the Office of Mission, Ministry and Interfaith Dialogue at [email protected].

Remember that we are fully committed to supporting and serving students and employees of all faith traditions.

Prayerfully and sorrowfully yours,

Miguel Martinez-Saenz
President, St. Francis College
