Students Show Off Results of Fulbright Dramatic Workshop
Students in English Professor Virginia Franklin's American Playwrights class worked on personal monologues with Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence Vaneshran Arumugam as part of a dramatic workshop.
The class was studying playwright and actor Anna Deavere Smith and her technique of interviewing people and then embodying them to create a play. Each selected someone they knew, interviewed them, then created a monologue where they pretended to be that person.
Arumugam, an professor actor from South Africa, worked with each of the students, offering advice on how to make the monologues more realistic and powerful.
