In her four years at St. Francis College, Zoe Felix has become a familiar face to the people that study and work here. Her resume is filled with co-curricular activities and leadership positions, and that put her front and center at events across the campus.

Among the many roles she's held: Speaker of SACOR, one of the leaders of student government; Student Ambassador for the College, helping to recruit new students; President of the Duns Scotus Honor Society; and Treasurer of Psi Chi, Psychology Honor Society.

Not to mention being a four-year member of the SFC Dance Team (and captain this past year), which meant performing at basketball games and other sporting events; being a peer leader, which required her to share her story incoming students at orientations; and being a student worker in the student affairs office.

Zoe took a breather from all her commitments to reflect on her St. Francis College career and what she's taking away from it.

Where are you from originally?

I grew up in small town called Baker, Louisiana. Everybody knew everybody. If you didn't know them personally, you knew of them. I was going to school with the same people from elementary to high school, before I moved to New York. I finished high school out here [New York City].

How did you decide to enroll in St. Francis College?

Initially, I was going to go back home [to Louisiana] for college. St. Francis College was a back-up plan. I just so happened to get an invite to Admitted Student Day. I was like, okay let me just go see what it's about.

I went, and I knew then that this is where I'm going to be for the next four years!

Among all your activities and leadership positions at St. Francis College, what stands out to you as most important?

One of the two things that I hold the closest to me is being on the SFC Dance Team. It really helped me become more confident. When I was a freshman, I looked up to a lot of the older girls, and they inspired me. Their confidence rubbed off on me. I probably wouldn't have been Duns Scotus President if it wasn't for Adriannah Rodriguez, who was on the Dance Team and was also Duns Scotus President.

The second thing is being Speaker of SACOR. It's so crazy because I almost didn't do it. But I looked at it, and I was like, I've been in all these clubs, I've held all these positions and I'm going to give it shot. I'm so happy that I did it has been the most rewarding feeling to hold that position.

Helping people troubleshoot and giving them advice, being friends with people I probably wouldn't have even crossed paths with. I'm just grateful for having that opportunity.

You're a psychology major. How did you pick that?

When I went to my first Admitted Students Day, I attended a psychology lecture during a breakout session, and it really resonated with me. The professor told us: psychology is a service. It's a service major. If you genuinely like helping people, then this is a major for you. And I knew right then. I love being a help to others. Service is everything. I think if you're not giving to others, you're not walking in your purpose.

How did you balance your coursework with all your commitments outside the classroom?

Being so busy, it was really hard to keep my grades up. I was able to do it with help from tutoring services here. Also, I was able to ask questions of older students who I looked up to.

Nick Sulicki is someone I really praise, from the Center for Student Success. He was my freshman advisor. He really helped me on my St. Francis journey. He taught me the ropes.

How was it for you to wrap up your last semester remotely, due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

Because it was my last semester, my workload wasn't extremely crazy. Some of my professors did Zoom classes, some of them did Canvas work. One of my classes was already online. I just stuck to a routine as if I was going to school. That was how I was able to get through it. It was hard because I love being in class with my classmates and interacting that way. But I did it and it was fine. It wasn't bad.

What's next for you?

I am applying to grad school. I am waiting to hear back and I'm going to decide whether to take a gap year before attending. My hope is to study public relations and digital marketing. But I also want to continue growing my own brand. On my Twiggy Versatile blog, I share fashion, beauty and lifestyle content, and I'd like to work with more brands there. I also want to jumpstart my photography business. I just want to really grow as a bigger brand.
