Advanced Graduate Certification in School Building Leadership

The Advanced Certificate in School Building Leadership is a graduate certificate designed to prepare New York State certified School Building Leaders. Students receive preparation to serve as curricular and operational leaders in P-12 settings as they analyze critical and contemporary issues as well as study best practices in school finance and law.

In addition, each student will complete an administrative internship in a school setting where they can apply theories to practice in authentic school environments.

Eligibility

The Advanced Certificate in School Building Leadership is open to individuals who have met the following requirements:

  • Completed BA or BS with a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • A Master’s degree in any field from an institution of higher education approved by the Commissioner of Education or a regional accrediting agency with a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Teaching/Pupil Personnel Service experience such that by the time of certificate completion, 3 years will have been completed

Certifications

Upon successful completion of the program, candidates will be eligible for an official Institutional Recommendation for New York State Initial Certification as a “School Building Leader.” To complete NYS Certification, students must pass New York State Certification Examinations and complete mandated workshops. Graduates qualify for positions as assistant principals and principals at P-12 schools.
