After spending more than three decades in public accounting as the Managing Partner of a highly successful and full-service New York area CPA firm, in 2013, Dr. Louis D’Elia joined SFC as a professor in the Department of Accounting and Business Law. Prior to co-founding the CPA firm at the age of twenty-four, Dr. D’Elia began his career at a multinational accounting firm. Promoted in unprecedented fashion, he was offered a position and subsequently appointed as vice-president of Regulatory Reporting for a national brokerage house.

Licensed as a CPA, Notary and Financial Services professional, he is an active member of numerous professional organizations. He remains a much sought-after lecturer who has appeared on cable television and has given financial literacy training to boards across many disciplines. Developing a special niche in the NPO and special needs communities, Dr. D’Elia has been the recipient of various community and other service awards. A practicing member of the accounting profession, his educational background includes graduating at the top of his class with a Doctorate Degree in Management from St. Leo University, an MBA in Finance from Pace University, and a BS Degree in Accounting from Wagner College.

Prior to his recently tenured appointment at SFC, for more than a decade, Dr. D’Elia taught bachelors and masters classes as an Adjunct Associate Professor at various local colleges and universities. Currently, along with his full-time teaching responsibilities, Dr. D’Elia is the Director of the highly acclaimed Masters’ Program and Combined BS/MS Programs in Accounting, as well as the Department’s facilitator of the National Grid Scholarship/Internship Program and the Dolly Williams Scholarship Award.

He has been instrumental in modifying the department curriculum to better parallel the needs of the working community and has created new strategic alliances with businesses resulting in internships and full-time employment opportunities for SFC students and alumni alike. He actively serves on various college committees, works tirelessly in the recruitment and placement of accounting majors and is an active contributor to both the Accounting Honors Program and Accounting Society. Dr. D’Elia is a committed fundraiser and generous contributor to all causes SFC. His prodigious commitment to scholarship, community and the Franciscan spirit was most recently rewarded as the 2020 Faculty Inductee of the prestigious Duns Scotus Honor Society.
