Dr. Balkon’s scholarly and professional expertise and interests reside in the areas of professional commitment and community involvement. Her career activities extend beyond the roles and responsibilities of educator and clinician (Nurse Practitioner-Internal Medicine) to national, state, and local activities which include advocate, consultant, mentor, invited speaker, and author.

She is devoted to continued active participation in professional organization and community activities that focus on health policy, health advocacy, and on individuals and families with chronic health concerns, mental health issues and addictions.

In these activities, Dr. Balkon integrates her expertise in nursing, internal medicine, mental health, and pharmacology/toxicology with her philosophy; a philosophy that promotes achieving balance between body, mind and spirit.
