Program overview

Earn your bachelor’s in Accounting at Brooklyn’s oldest private college. Graduates of the program regularly land enviable jobs at the prestigious Big Four accounting firms, Deloitte, EY, KPMG, and PwC, as well as other large corporations, banks, brokerage houses, manufacturing firms, retail establishments, government agencies, and non-profit groups.

The B.S. in Accounting offers two tracks, the 151-credit CPA track and the 121-credit non-CPA track. Students enrolled in the CPA track have the opportunity to pursue a dual B.S./M.S. in Accountancy, which means earning both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just five (5) years.

Underlying the focused, outcomes-driven curriculum is SFC’s robust General Education Program, which is the cornerstone of SFC and affirms its mission to graduate educated, well-rounded individuals who enter the workforce and work to change and culturally diversify the world. 
 

PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES

PLO 1: Demonstrate the ability to prepare, interpret, and analyze financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), auditing standards, and other appropriate professional pronouncements of the accounting profession.
PLO 2: Conduct themselves in an appropriate ethical manner with honesty and integrity in their professional endeavors by demonstrating professional conduct and demeanor in business settings.
PLO 3: Communicate accounting information effectively to a professional audience consisting of business clients, investors, regulatory authorities.
PLO 4: Apply their knowledge of the design and application of information technology to identify the risks and benefits associated with this technology.
PLO 5: Think critically and develop a systemic and rational approach in their decision-making skills to successfully handle challenges that arise in the business arena.

CURRICULUM HIGHLIGHTS

The accounting curriculum is designed to develop students’ technical expertise, analytical skills, and professional competencies needed for success in today’s dynamic business environment. Students gain a strong foundation in financial reporting by learning how to prepare and interpret financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and auditing standards. The program also emphasizes the integration of modern accounting technologies, providing students with experience using industry-relevant computer software and emerging AI tools for accounting and business procedures.

In addition to technical knowledge, the curriculum develops strong research, communication, and analytical skills. Students engage in professional research projects and learn to present complex financial information clearly through both written reports and oral presentations. Throughout the program, a strong emphasis is placed on ethical decision-making, honesty, and professional integrity, preparing students to act responsibly and earn the trust and respect required in professional accounting and business environments.
