Franciscan Month: Peace Run at SFC
Join us for the kickoff event of Franciscan Month 2024. All are welcome!
The late Indian spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy lit the first Peace Torch in New York City in 1987, and thus began the tradition of the Peace Run — a global torch relay that offers everyone a chance to wish for a better, brighter future lived in peace. Runners carry the Peace Torch, which is passed from hand to hand and heart to heart. To date, the Peace Run has visited more than 150 nations and territories, touching the lives of millions of people, from schoolchildren to heads of state.
In alignment with the Franciscan values of peace and harmony, participants in SFC's Peace Run will take turns holding the Peace Torch and passing it on to all audience members gathered in the auditorium. Students, faculty and staff, carrying their country’s flag, will say "peace" in their native language and make a wish or prayer for peace on Earth.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Peace Torch will be brought outside the College for a walk/run around the block, providing an opportunity to offer it to SFC’s neighbors and share with them our joint wishes and prayers for world peace.
