SFC Announces New Partnership with Bronx Community College

SFC STEM

St. Francis College (SFC) is partnering with Bronx Community College (BCC) to allow graduates of BCC — from the Spring 2022 semester onward — with an associate degree in science in the biology option to transfer seamlessly to SFC and, after two years, graduate with a Bachelor of Science in biology.

Under the terms of the agreement, BCC students may transfer to SFC and apply 60 credits from their completed associate degree in science in the biology option to requirements for the St. Francis College B.S. in biology.

Transfer students from BCC will be able to benefit from SFC’s STEM Resource Center (SRC), which provides focused support to undergraduate students who identify as Hispanic/Latinx or students from low-income households. The SRC offers students the opportunity to participate in STEM Summer Institutes, for support in key science courses, as well as provides them access to a full-time STEM success coach.

In addition, BCC transfer students who meet program qualifications will be given priority admission to SFC’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (C-STEP), which serves undergraduate students interested in the sciences, health-related fields and careers in licensed professions such as psychology, social work and accounting.

Transfer students from BCC must indicate that they are part of this articulation agreement when they apply to SFC; for more, see the transfer pathway evaluation. Those who qualify will be eligible for scholarships, merit-based aid and need-based aid from SFC, as follows:

  • Incoming full-time, Pell-eligible transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher will receive a renewable scholarship of $14,000 annually.
  • Incoming full-time, Pell-eligible transfer students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5-2.99 will be considered for a scholarship of up to $14,000 on a case-by-case basis.

To retain their scholarship, transfer students must receive a grade of a C or above in all SFC coursework and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75.

“This agreement with Bronx Community College is the result of internal collaboration among several offices and departments at St. Francis College, including the Office of Success Partnerships, the STEM Resource Center, the Biology Department and the Office of Enrollment Management,” said Gregory Bardzell, Director of Success Partnerships at SFC. “The agreement includes transfer scholarship perks, as well as perks under the STEM Resource Center, which, we believe, will be appealing to students.”
