Prayer During Election Season
Divine Spirit, As the election approaches, we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that confront our nation, and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens for the sake of all your creation.
We ask for eyes that are free from blindness so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters, one and equal in dignity. Grant us a vision of who we are as a people, grounded in community and compassion for all, especially the most marginalized.
A vision that cares for our earth and heals the planet.
A vision that ends structural racism, bigotry, and sexism.
A vision that ensures hungry people are fed, children are nourished, immigrants are welcomed. We ask for hearts and minds that are open to hearing the voice of leaders who hear your Word, and are truly servants who will lead with love, compassion, integrity, and honesty. Leaders who will work to banish hatred and bigotry,
build bridges and forge a common bond across our differences,
and restore and safeguard the principles of peace and security for all. With profound hope in Your abundant love and mercy, we pray. Amen.
