In the Spotlight: Helen &Quot;skip" Skipper, Incoming Post-Prison Program Student

Incoming first-year student Helen "Skip" Skipper is a Peer Supervisor with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and is enrolling in St. Francis thanks to the Post-Prison Program, an initiative launched in 2014 by Dr. Emily Horowitz, Professor, Sociology & Criminal Justice, to help formerly incarcerated women and men earn their college degrees.

St. Francis College Science Students Monitor Local Water Quality

Working in collaboration with Dr. Victoria Ruiz, Assistant Professor of Biology and Health Promotion, a team of six undergraduates and one recent grad signed on for a 20-week project to monitor the quality of local waterways. St. Francis College is one of eleven partner labs in the New York City Water Trail Association's annual Citizens Water Quality Testing (CWQT) Program.

In the Spotlight: Justine Lombardi, Head Coach, Women's Soccer

August 22nd is a significant milestone in the history of St. Francis College: that's the date of the season opener for the College's inaugural Women's Soccer Team. When Deedee Fields first enrolled in St. Francis College in 2001, she didn't know she was embarking on what would be an eighteen year journey to the graduation stage. As part of the new "Terriers Come Home" initiative, Deedee earned her degree in July 2019, having left St. Francis more than a decade ago to build her career in the NYPD.

Meet Brenda Onyango, from Nairobi, Kenya. Brenda moved to New York City to enroll in St. Francis in September 2018. A Management major, Brenda's sharpening her business acumen not only through her academic pursuits, but through a summer internship that provides a unique vantage point into the world of New York City finance. Brenda recently spoke about her summer gig and how she made her way from Kenya to St. Francis College.

Two dozen area high school students are immersing themselves in hands-on scientific learning at St. Francis College, thanks to the two-week Summer Science Academy organized by Dr. Kathleen Nolan, Chair of the Biology and Health Promotion Department, who started the annual program nineteen years ago.

As a member of the St. Francis Women's Volleyball team, Taris Pittman '20 is used to putting in hard work on the court. But this summer, Taris is seeing another side of sports entirely. The Washington, DC-native is interning with MediaCom, a global brand-building communications company, in its Sports and Entertainment unit. She shared how she landed the gig and what's she learning there.

Students Travel to Havana to Take Part in College's First Marine Biology Course Offered There

Thirteen St. Francis College students traveled to Havana, Cuba from May 29th to June 4th, to complete a spring semester Marine Biology course they primarily took online until then.
